Purposefully Different

About My Patient Approach

Dental Anxiety

When I first began practicing as a dentist, I found myself trying to fit into the mold and image society had of other dentists- although I felt my purpose was larger than pulling teeth and telling you to floss. I realized my path has felt different for a reason.

I then thought, what if dentistry could be purposefully different? What if dentistry could be about the group of people we see every day – this big group that we’ve amassed – what if we could build those people up – tell their stories – bring them together - while helping them achieve wellness? Does it HAVE to be only about teeth?

For me, I enjoy dentistry because it’s where art, science, and community all meet. I learned in my practice quickly that my interactions with patients were different, the work I was doing was different, and my idea that this ‘job’ I had could be so much more… was also different. I practice dentistry in a way that promotes health, well-being, and quality of life. After all, where else in your body do you have bones exposed to bacteria, food, and saliva all day?

Your oral health impacts the health of your entire body.

Tooth pain, fear of the dentist, inability to smile confidently, inability to chew food properly- all these things impact one’s quality of life and health. I know that I can change that. I can work in a building that uses environmentally friendly design and elements of nature to help people relax. I can offer dental products that use sustainable materials. I can slow down my work enough to get to know people on a deeper level- what do they need? What are their fears? More importantly, what is holding them back from fulfilling their goals?

If we can help people conquer their fears of the dentist, maybe they can go out and conquer other difficult relationships. If we can help people achieve a healthy mouth, maybe their newfound health can allow them to achieve a long, lost goal.  If we can help people feel confident in their smiles, maybe it will give them the confidence to change the world.

At LAT Dentistry, we are purposefully different.
